FAQ

Why do I need a designer?

Your need for a designer has to be based on your goals for your home. If you are ok with a basic plan home on a basic lot then you don’t need a designer. But if you want a layout that takes into account the land and your goals and dreams, or if you want an addition that complements your existing home, then the right designer is critical.

How do I prepare for the initial meeting with a designer?

A list including the following elements will prove invaluable to the designer at your initial meeting:

  1. Budget (realistic numbers of what you are willing to finance for the project)
  2. Building lot (size, deed, etc.)
  3. Pictures (any magazine pullouts or other images of styles and details you like
  4. Builder
  5. Primary goals (what are your key objectives for your home?)

Are all designers the same?

No. Ask a potential designer about key skills, education, and specialties they may be known for. One client commented to Tom, “You are an artist that works with homes.”
